Alabama's Black Creek Stocked with Rainbow Trout

Gadsden, AL. –Alabama anglers will not have to travel to north Georgia or Tennessee to fly fish for the next few months; you will be able to do it in Gadsden, Alabama in Black Creek at Noccalula Falls Park. Approximately 1000 pounds of Rainbow Trout were stocked in the creek below Noccalula Falls. The trout will take a few days to acclimate and find feeding zones and holding points. This project, in its sixth year, is a partnership with The City of Gadsden’s Noccalula Falls Park, partners from the Rainbow Fly Fishing Club, Representative Craig Lipscomb and Greater Gadsden Area Tourism.

Residents and non-residents wishing to cast a line in Black Creek for trout or any other type of fish, must possess a valid State of Alabama Fishing License and a Trout Permit. Purchase your Alabama Fishing License first from Coosa Landing Boat Launch at 200 Lake St., Gadsden, AL. 256-549-4677 or online. You will need to show your AL Fishing license when purchasing your Trout Permit. 2025 Trout Permits, previously purchased at Noccalula Campground office (closed for renovations until April 2025) can be purchased this year at the Noccalula Falls Park Office (by the Kiwanis Pavilion) open daily 8am-4pm or online at City of Gadsden. Trout Permits are $10 for one day and $35 for a seasonal pass good through June 30. The Trout Permits need to be clipped to your clothing while fishing in Black Creek and plastic permit holders can be purchased at the same time, if you need one. Thank you for leaving no trace and keeping our waters clean.

Trout fishing should be done with fly rods only, with a barbless hook and only artificial bait can be used. Limit one pole and line per angler. Fishing is allowed between dawn and dusk and no fishing is allowed in the pool below the falls. New this year: Catch-and-Release only until April 1st (versus May 1st in the past). In harvest season April-June, anglers may keep up to 5 trout per day. Check out the new informational page on our website:https://greatergadsden.com/fly-fishing/
