Fly-Rod Length Record Cuda Caught in Keys

Captain Nick LaBadie was fishing off Key West, Florida, Jan. 31 when he landed an impressive 141-cm (4.63') great barracuda using a fly rod.

This catch could potentially earn the IGFA All-Tackle Length Fly World Record for the species.

LaBadie reported hooking the barracuda on a needlefish fly. He recorded its length on his official IGFA Measuring Device before safely releasing the fish. The record is currently pending review.

He did not report the exact location, but the photo submitted makes it appear he was fishing on the flats near one of the keys, rather than out at the reefs where larger cuda's typically roam.
