Denver Fly Fishing Show Feb. 21-23

Nearly $100,000 in door prizes will be up for grabs when the 23rd annual Denver Fly Fishing Show kicks off the 2025 angling season Feb. 21-23 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, 6700 No. Gaylord Rockies Blvd., Aurora.

Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri.; 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sat; and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sun. Fly Fishing Show® admission is $20 for one day, $35 for two days and $45 for three. Children under age 5 are free as are Boy and Girl Scouts under age 16 in uniform. Children 6-12 are $5. Active military with an ID are $10.

The weekend-long ode to the sport will include classes, seminars, and demonstrations, together with wall-to-wall displays of everything that’s new for 2025 in the massive Aurora facility from rods and reels to boots, waders, personal watercraft and the vacation destinations to use them.

There will be 31 classes with fly fishing experts including a day-long special session with Dr. Gary Borger and Mac Brown on Feb. 20, the day before the show opens. Enrollment in the Borger/Brown 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. course is $625. Standard half-day classes geared to every aspect of fly fishing are $95.

Standard classes include Casting Strategies with Gary Borger, Perfecting Drift and Presentation with Aerial Mends by Mac Brown, Trophy Trout Tactics for all Season on the South Platte River with Landon Mayer, Euro Nymphing from A-to-Z with Tim Cammisa, Knots & Rigging for Trout with Tim Flagler, Fly Casting Skills Workshop with Whitney Gould, Master Class: Fly Fishing Tailwaters with Pat Dorsey, Small Waters: Advanced Methods with Frank Burr, and Deer Hair Boot Camp with Joe Jackson and Jeff Rowley.

Some 135 Adventure and Destination Theater fly fishing presentations are on tap ranging from Alaska to Argentina in six theaters. Among them are Fishing for Wild Native Fish in Northern BC, Trinity River Steelhead: How and Where to Fish California’s Most Productive Steelhead River, Bonefish in Paradise, Belize – Fishing the Flats, Chile Fly Fishing, and
Northern Patagonia’s Fly Fishing Secrets.

Other Destination and Adventure Theater presentations are From Christmas Island to Iceland, Exploring Costa Rica with a Fly Rod, Float Fishing the Black Canyon, Fly Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Backcountry Fly Fishing, and Central Wyoming’s Best – The North Platte.

There are 37 hour-long seminars including Fly Fishing the South Platte River with Pat Dorsey, The Art of Dry Fly Presentation with Frank Burr, 25 Ways to Elevate Your Trout Game with Ed Engle, Streamer Methods for Better Quality Fish with Mac Brown, Seasons of the Arkansas River with Taylor Edrington, Fishing the Film with Gary Borger, and Sight Fishing Secrets for Dries, Nymphs, and Streamers with Landon Mayer.

Nineteen casting demonstrations are scheduled by Gary Borger, Andy Mill, Luong Tam, Landon Mayer, Whitney Gould, Jeff Currier, Christopher Rownes, Alice Owsley, Karin Miller and other professionals.

The Fly Fishing Show includes a Women’s Fly Fishing Showcase devoted to women-centered discussions, presentations, learning opportunities and networking.

Among the nearly $100,000 in door prizes are six days for four guests at 4Corners Costa Rica Lodge, value $9,995; Golden Dorado trip for two by Nervous Waters, value $9,500; a week at Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge in King Salmon, Alaska, value $7,500; a week at Rio Manso Lodge in Northern Patagonia, value $7,000; Belize River Lodge, Belize for two anglers, value $6,400; a week at Chile Trout, value $6,190; and three days at Fish Partner Lodge, Iceland, value $6,375; and Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, $1,500 credit on any trip.

The Rocky Mountain premiere of the two hour 2025 International Fly Fishing Film Festival is Fri. (2/21) at 6:30. Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door. Among the festival films are Native Range – Native cutthroat trout in Utah; Fishing Diaries – Giant Trevally in the Seychelles; Silent Spotter – A deaf and mute guide in Xcalak, Mexico; Time Will Tell – Paul Puckett’s impact on the fly fishing world; Above the Clouds – Five friends on a journey into Colorado’s alpine; New Beginnings – Casa Mar and the legends Chico Fernandez and Dan Blanton; and Legacy – The life and story of Cathy and Barry Beck.

Attendees can cast their votes for the 2025 Consumer Choice Awards. There are 41 categories of new fly fishing products in the competition with awards to be made jointly by the Fly Fishing Show, Fly Fusion Magazine, and Fly Fishing Journeys.

Fly Fishers International (FFI) hosts the free Fly Fishing Learning Center with fly tying, casting instruction and other fly fishing information aimed at newcomers to the sport.
