Booyah Flash Point Jerkbait

If you pay any attention to the bass fishing world you’ve almost certainly caught some of the buzz about BOOYAH’s new Flash Point jerkbait. It created a big stir when it was introduced at the ICAST show in July, has been a major player in top tournament finishes already, and won Best Hard Bait category in the Product Showcase Awards at the Pittman Creek Dealer Show.

All that attention generates plenty of questions, so we wanted to break down what makes the BOOYAH Flash Point unique and why it excels for catching bass and other gamefish species.

The Signature Blade

The patent-pending design of the BOOYAH Flash Point features a willow blade that is embedded atop the Flash Point’s head and sonically welded to stay in position. The unique blade, which is this jerkbait’s namesake feature, serves a couple of important functions.

For live sonar users, the blade create a “flash point” in the form of a hard, flat surface that creates a clear live sonar return. Maximized ability to see your lure on the screen and track its every movement is hugely beneficial for effectively targeting specific fish. Beyond making it easier to get a lure just above or in front of the fish you are targeting, an enhanced return allows you to see how the fish respond to the bait and pattern them more effectively.

For all anglers, the Flash Point provides a distinctive flash that draws fish near, prompts extra strikes and makes strikes more on target, resulting in more hook-ups. Unlike the flashy sides of some jerkbait colors, the blade creates a small, targeted “flash point” that reflects light from the front of the lure and provides a completely different appeal.

Flash Point Action

The Flash Point’s action is highly variable according to the sharpness and length of rod movements. It is naturally quick and erratic, though, imitating a baitfish that is spooked or injured and consequently an easier meal than most. It also darts side to side, much more so than forward, which is important for keeping the bait in an area and coaxing strikes. Fish often don’t want to move far from their position to feed, and the more they must follow a bait, the less likely they are to eat it.

As important as the way a Flash Point moves is the way it rests. It neither floats up nor sinks but remains at the exact level of the water column where it stopped. This is a vital feature for targeting fish on live sonar and for the slow, pause-heavy presentations that produce the best fishing through the cooler months. The Flash Point suspends at a nose-down 45-degree angle, which is ideal for exposure of the blade for live sonar and postures the bait perfectly for optimized action on the next jerk.

The Flash Point dives to approximately 5 feet when cast, working an important depth zone for jerkbait fishing.

The Appearance

Everything about a Flash Point jerkbait’s appearance says “dinner” to bass and other predators. The shape, colors, etched details and eyes match the appearance of a real shad or herring.

The Flash Point’s body shape is mostly slender, which, coupled with its 4.25-inch size, makes it look like an easy meal. A rounded and raised midsection maximizes the suggestion of a real shad.

A dozen highly natural color patterns suggest different baitfish species and provide excellent options for a range of water colors and situations. Two-toned realistic eyes and etched details, including scales and lateral lines, add to the natural attraction

Features & Components

Long casts can be important for jerkbait fishing success, especially in extra clear water and in places where the fish are heavily pressured. For this reason, the Flash Point is equipped with a tungsten weight-transfer casting system that facilitates long casts and allows anglers to fish this bait on baitcasting tackle, even in the wind.

The Flash Point features premium components, including its split rings and three satin-finish carbon steel No. 4 treble hooks that stay hidden in the water and are exceptionally sharp.
