Anglers and Boaters Needed to Create Living Shoreline on Tampa Bay Nov. 16

CCA Florida and Duke Energy have teamed up with Tampa Bay Watch to create a new living shoreline project in honor of Fred Crabill. This project consists of deploying 870 oyster reef balls and 60 tons of fossilized and recycled oyster shell along the northeastern shoreline of Fantasy Island.

The kickoff event is planned from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 16 and CCA members are invited to help and to celebrate this project in memory of our good friend, Fred Crabill. The event will start at Williams Park Boat Ramp at 9425 US Hwy 41 South, Riverview, FL 33578 and boats will shuttle volunteers to Fantasy Island. Please note, only 30 volunteers are needed for the kickoff event, so please RSVP early to reserve your spot.

Volunteers are also needed on November 15 (day before kick-off), and December 11, 12 and 13. The projects will run from approximately 9 a.m. to noon each day and start from the Williams Park Boat Ramp.

Volunteers will shovel and install oyster shell bags as well as reef balls. Please bring water and a refillable container, gloves, hat, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes. You may also get wet so we suggest bringing a towel and change of clothes.

Two boats are also needed to shuttle volunteers to and from Fantasy Island on November 16.

To volunteer your time and/or boat, please RSVP to Rachel Arndt (rarndt@tampabaywatch.org).
