DAIWA Power Assist TANACOM S500J

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA – Power-assist reels aren’t only for swordfish and mythical kraken. (Although DAIWA builds that, too, and calls it the SEABORG G1800M-RJ.) Midrange sizes like the new SEABORG G1200M and G800MJ can tame everything from rockfish to outsized grouper with ease. But what about something a bit smaller, a power-assist reel you can hold while fishing? Well, DAIWA has that covered as well. Welcome the new TANACOM S500J

There was a gap between brawny power-assist reels and conventional gear until the TANACOM S500J came along. Now, you can enjoy the benefits of deep-dropping with power-assist equipment, while holding the reel in your hand. “It’s smaller and lighter,” said DAIWA Field Marketing Manager, Chris Martin, about the new TANACOM S500J. “Hold it in your hand and feel the bite. Now that’s exciting…”

“It’s the most interactive way to fish I can think of.”

Gaging what constitutes a “deep-drop” is a relative thing. Some anglers might consider 100 feet deep, while a salty seafarer doesn’t consider anything under 1,500 feet…deep. Regardless of your opinion, a hard pulling fish coming off a 100-foot reef can wear you out. Several of them can test your physical stamina. But with the support of the new TANACOM S500J, anglers can manage perspiration while enjoying the battle.

Martin says the new TANACOM S500J is armed for standard deep-ranging quarry, such as grouper, snapper, and tilefish in the Gulf and up the Atlantic, as well as species like rockfish and lingcod on the Pacific side. To that, he thinks it’ll be a hit with striper and tautog anglers to the northeast.

Regarding the TANACOM S500J’s features-set, Martin instantly points to the JOG Power Lever. “Think of it like an adjustable throttle. Instantly and easily control the speed that a fish comes up off the bottom. And the reel automatically shuts down as a fish approaches the surface, so the rig doesn’t come crashing in and bust the top guide. At the moment of truth, it’s you against the fish, manually cranking the reel. That’s the fun part.”

Martin also highlights the reel’s magnificent housing. “Its tough all-aluminum frame keeps the internal parts working in precision with one another, which extends longevity despite all the force and winding power on the TANACOM S500J.”

Finally, the perfect gateway to experiencing the authority of a power-assist reel while still experiencing the feel and fight. DAIWA calls it the TANACOM S500J...
